📢 Cervical Cancer Prevention Week: January 21st - 28th
This week, we’re spotlighting Human papillomavirus (HPV) – a very common group of viruses that can sometimes lead to genital warts or cancer.
🦠 What is HPV?
Affects the skin; over 100 types.
Most people won’t experience symptoms or know they have it.
🤝 How is it spread?
Skin-to-skin contact in the genital area.
Vaginal, anal, or oral sex, and sharing sex toys.
🎗️ Risks & Prevention
High-risk HPV types can cause cancer.
Use condoms (though they don’t offer full protection).
The HPV vaccine is a key preventative measure.
🩺 Testing
HPV testing is part of cervical screening for people aged 25–64.
Regular screening helps protect against cervical cancer.
💡 Most HPV infections clear up within 2 years, but treatment is available for related issues like genital warts or abnormal cell changes.
